ABOUT
Canadian Miniature Painter and Instructor

Courtney DeVries is the artist behind Figuratively Speaking Minis, a studio known for its realistic finishes, bold character work, and a deep love for teaching others the craft of miniature painting. Based in Canada, Courtney has built a reputation for blending technical precision with an approachable, supportive style that helps painters of all levels grow their confidence and skill. Her philosophy is simple: everyone can paint, everyone can learn, and mistakes are just part of the fun. Whether she’s painting a detailed character, building unique terrain, or teaching a class of beginners, Courtney brings authenticity, enthusiasm, and a love of learning to everything she does. Her work focuses on expressive storytelling through color, texture, and careful attention to detail—traits that have become hallmarks of her brand.
In addition to her classes and commissions, Courtney is deeply involved in the miniature-painting community as a streamer, content creator, and supportive voice for hobbyists of all skill levels. She is passionate about creating spaces—both online and in person—where painters feel encouraged, confident, and excited to explore their creativity. Through Figuratively Speaking Minis, Courtney’s mission is to help people discover the joy of the hobby, one brushstroke (or airbrush pass!) at a time.
Beyond creating her own pieces, Courtney brings experience from the competitive side of the hobby as well, including previous judging roles that have strengthened her eye for composition, finish quality, and overall presentation. This background fuels her mentorship and workshops, where she guides painters not just on how to improve, but why certain techniques elevate a piece. Through Figuratively Speaking Minis, Courtney continues to champion creativity, craftsmanship, and community within the miniature painting world.
